Welcome to the

Freeman Patterson Centre

Learning. Creativity. Gardens.

The Freeman Patterson Centre will offer an environment where people can create, discover, and grow, immersed in the garden and programs that embrace the inter-connection of beauty, well-being and nature.

Established in 2019, the Freeman Patterson Centre is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of Freeman Patterson through stewardship of his internationally renowned 18-acre rhododendron and azalea garden, while advancing education through programs that inspire creativity, environmental appreciation, and personal well-being. Located at Shampers Bluff, the Centre builds upon Freeman’s lifelong contributions to photography, the arts, horticulture, and nature conservation in New Brunswick, across Canada, and internationally.

The garden is situated within the Shamper’s Bluff Nature Reserve, protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Through a planned transition, the Freeman Patterson Centre will assume stewardship of the garden, ensuring it remains a place of learning, inspiration, and public enjoyment for generations to come.

The Freeman Patterson Centre is currently in its start-up phase. As it transitions from a private garden to a public charitable amenity, the Board is working with Freeman Patterson, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, community partners, volunteers, and supporters to build the resources, governance, and educational programming needed to sustain the Centre for the future.

The Freeman Patterson Centre is its garden, but it is also its vast programming as well as its mission to recognize and perpetuate beauty in all its forms. It is a place where beauty, creativity, learning, and nature come together. Through workshops, educational programs, and opportunities for reflection and discovery, the Centre seeks to inspire a deeper appreciation of the natural world and our place within it.
